Geometry of Truth: Fine Art Society, 2015

Presented at The Fine Art Society in London, Geometry of Truth brought together works exploring Chris Levine’s ongoing investigation into the nature of light and perception.

Spanning sculptural light works, screenprints, lightboxes and laser-cut works, the exhibition explored the geometric structures and patterns that underpin the behaviour of light. Levine drew connections between mathematics, natural geometry and patterns, and the technologies through which light can be manipulated and experienced.

The show also marked the first presentation of Geometry of Truth,  a large-scale parabolic light work that has since become a signature work within Levine’s practice. Slowly rotating crystals animate the surface of the dish, projecting shifting, organic forms of light that continually evolve across its surface.

The exhibition invited audiences to step out of the kaleidoscope of ‘noise’ that surrounds everyday life and into a single frequency - drawing attention towards a heightened sense of stillness.

As Levine reflected:

“Pure geometry transcends everything; impulses and patterns found in nature and the brain also exist in the technology we have created. This raises fundamental questions about how we view art and examine life. I am interested in light as a principal natural characteristic, through which it is possible to experience fundamental truths in nature.”
