On August 9th, a major exhibition opens at Oxford's Ashmolean Museum, Money Talks: Art, Society and Power. Featuring works from Rembrandt to Warhol, the exhibition explores how currency and art have throughout history come together in design and culture to promote or challenge society.
Imagery on our currency often begins its life as art. We are honoured to have loaned the £100 Jersey banknote featuring Chris' royal portrait, Equanimity, to this important show. First released in 2012, the £100 Jersey banknote was created in honour of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
"When I was commissioned to create Equanimity, I set out to make an iconic work, a portrait that would sit alone in Jersey's Mont Orgueil Castle. I had no idea it would become such an historic work and be so loved around the world. It was a surreal moment when I first saw the portrait on this banknote. It's a great honour."
